My First Oktoberfest!!!

This past weekend, I packed my lederhosen, cleaned my drunk goggles off, and hopped on a bus to Munich, Germany for the biggest beer festival in the world, Oktoberfest.  I had been to Munich before, for Springfest, a miniature Oktoberfest in April, but nothing compares to the sheer enormity of the real thing.  Arriving on Friday morning, there was obviously nothing better to do but go to the Beer Tents, so there I found myself, 10:30 in the morning, enjoying a cold beer with 10,000 of my best friends.

I won’t go into details; in fact, I don’t think I could go into details, but the weekend turned out to be incredible.  Giant pretzels, German sausages and brauts, gigantic beers, some sightseeing (Thanks to Frankie’s Bike Tours), and countless shouts of Prost as my friends and me clanged our steins of beer together.

It is hard to explain the general sentiment found at Oktoberfest.  It is a mix of complete euphoria and utter satisfaction; a recognition of the joy it is to be alive.  I don’t know if it is the fact that so many people from around the world have come together to celebrate, or the millions of litres of beer consumed that livens up the environment, but I have never been anywhere else where so many people are just happy all the time.

I can’t wait to return to Munich in the Spring for the second biggest beer drinking festival, Springfest!!!!  Prost!!!
