Yet another fabulous weekend in the Amalfi Coast! We had a great group, great weather and all around good times. Check out what we did…
Capri: Boat Tours, Blue Grottos & Beaches
We set off first thing on Friday morning to Capri. I’m pretty sure everyone took advantage of the opportunity to take a little snooze on the ferry ride over. However, once we arrived at our destination we were wide awake and excited for the boat tour around the island. We spotted some impressive villas belonging to the rich and famous such as the Gerber Family, Sofia Loren and Giorgio Armani. There were some friendly smooches shared in hopes of good luck as we passed through the Faraglioni rocks. And of course, the highlight of the tour, we made a little stop at the Blue Grotto. Everyone returned in their little row boats looking dazed and amazed at the iridescent blue water they had just seen.
After the boat tour, we headed over to the Giardini di Augusto for some prime photos of Capri and then onto Marina Piccola for some lunch and beach time. Once we were re-energized after some food and relaxation we went back to Capri Town for a limoncello tasting at Magic Lemon.
I think it is safe to say it was a fabulous day.
Positano: Granitas, Black Sand Beaches & Shopping
On Saturday morning, we hopped on the bus and were on our way to Positano. Even those with weak stomachs enjoyed the ride over in spite of all the twists and turns you have to take to get there. It’s all part of the experience!
As we walked down the hundreds of stairs and the town came into view, everyone picked up their step a little bit so they could get to the beach as fast as possible.
Positano is a free day for the group so everyone went their separate ways to explore on their own. Anna and I laid out on the beach, ate some delicious seafood, then laid out some more and refreshed ourselves with granitas. An ideal day in my opinion.
Pompeii: A City Frozen In Time
Sadly enough, Sundays mean the trek home. However, the adventure doesn’t end at check-out because we visit Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius first!
As much as I love the beach time on this trip, Pompeii is pretty cool too. It never ceases to amaze me and I learn something new every single time. Dork alert!! It’s just so fascinating to think about how advanced these people were all the way back in 79AD. And on top of that, the fact that the town is like a living, breathing fossil for us to examine. Pretty incredible!!
The group seemed to be blown away by the theaters, running water, take-away restaurants, brothels, government buildings, houses and the bodies that have been dug up.
Vesuvius: Hike Up A Volcano
OK, I’m not going to lie. This weekend was the first time that I climbed up Mt. Vesuvius and it was AWESOME!! I think what made it even cooler was that we had just come from Pompeii so we were able to see first-hand the volcano responsible for making it what it is today.
Basically, we just hiked up to the top and checked out the views of the crater, Naples and Pompeii. Lots of photo ops!
Florence: The Return Home
We had a great weekend and so did the rest of the group. It was really rewarding to hear comments like, “this was the best weekend I’ve ever had”…”Pompeii exceeded all expectations”…”I didn’t even know places like this existed in the world”…and so on.
To many more fabulous weekends in the Amalfi Coast!!
