Welcome Florence summer study abroad students! Are you ready for the best summer of your life?! Most of you are here for a short six weeks or less and do not want to spend a second of it wasting your time or money.
Have no fear, I’ll help point you in the right direction starting off with my 3 favorite FlorenceForFun summer trips.
My 3 Favorite FlorenceForFun Summer Trips:
- The Amalfi Coast (Weekend Trip) – If you have a full weekend available (Thursday to Sunday), I highly recommend our Amalfi Coast trip. This is the best way to see the breathtaking views of the Southern Italian towns of Sorrento, Capri, Positano and Pompeii. We explore the island of Capri via boat tour and make a little stop at the Blue Grotto. The rest of the afternoon is spent wandering around Capri Town, visiting Augustus’ Garden and relaxing on the beach at Marina Piccola. And of course, a visit to Capri would not be complete without a little limoncello! Positano is all about chilling out on the black sand beach with a melon granita followed by some shopping or maybe renting a boat and taking it for a whirl. Both Friday and Saturday night are spent in the adorable town of Sorrento where you can see the center come alive with locals, take a stroll down the main road and get yourself a gelato. On the way back to Florence, we give you the chance to take a guided tour of Pompeii and climb the volcano, Mt. Vesuvius, that is responsible for freezing the town in 79AD forever.
- The Best of Tuscany (Day Trip) – Florence is gorgeous, no doubt, but why not venture outside of the city walls and see what else Tuscany has to offer? Spend the day admiring the views of the rolling hills and walking around the towns of Montepulciano, Pienza and Montalcino. The landscape is not the only thing to be appreciated – there are two wine tastings and a cheese tasting included as well. By the end of your trip, you will be a cheese and wine expert – with knowledge on how the cheese is produced, the process wine goes through before it is legally eligible to drink, how to properly taste wine and which wines perfectly compliment which types of food. Does that not put the BEST in Best of Tuscany?!
- Cinque Terre (Day Trip) – Cameras required for this one! Hike along the paths leading from one town to the next in Cinque Terre, meaning Five Lands or Five Towns. As the hike gets progressively more difficult, the views become more rewarding as you find yourself looking out at the Ligurian Sea and all of the orange, pink and lemon-colored houses. Don’t worry though, there is plenty of time to take a breather on the beaches along the way if you wish.
